#RESIM2026  in Riga, Latvia

This symposium brings together academic scientists, researchers, and scholars to explore the science and engineering of flows, responsive materials, and microsystems for biomedicine. Organized by the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia and the Living Matter group of the Department of Physics, University of Latvia, the event highlights advances spanning fundamental research to translational applications. Particular emphasis is placed on the physical intelligence of single cells and collectives, including the principles that enable microswimmers and small-scale robots to sense, decide, and act.

The symposium also offers a platform for early-career researchers and students to share their work and engage with leading experts shaping the future of next-gen biomedical systems.

Mechanobiology and Rheology of Biosuspensions

From the rheology and morphology of cells, bacteria, and other biological suspensions to cell–flow coupling, mechanotransduction, and flow-activated signaling; unraveling how complex suspensions sense, respond, and adapt in physiological and biomimetic environments.

Microfluidic and Lab-on-a-Chip Platforms

From design and fabrication to the application of microfluidic systems for diagnostics, biomedical research, and translational medicine; advancing emerging micro/nanotechnologies from concept to clinical impact. 

Micro/Nanosensing and Actuation

From advances in physical, chemical, and biological sensors to micro/nanoscale actuators—enabling the detection of metabolites, biomolecules, and pathogens in real time, and triggering targeted actions that allow microrobots and microsystems to sense, decide, and act within complex biomedical environments. 

Active Matter & Microrobotics

From biohybrid and synthetic microswimmers to self-powered carriers and intelligent delivery systems—navigating simple and complex fluids, harnessing collective behaviors, and adapting motion to dynamic biomedical environments.
